Don't Jump!

I have been reading about the Van Halen a lot these days. I've never heard their music, but everyone's whipped up into a frenzy over who is the better singer: Mr. Hagar, Mr. Roth or that new boy from that other band. Who cares?

There's a lesson to be learned here from the music of yesteryear.

In my day, we had The Glenn Miller Orchestra and The Tommy Dorsey Orchestra and whatnot. Nobody pitched a ninny about who their singer was. They got who they could and went about their business of making music because Mr. Miller and Mr. Dorsey ran their bands. You knew Tommy Dorsey was the boss because his name was the name of the band. He just payed some fellow to do the singing and that was that. When Frank Sinatra decided he was through Mr. Dorsey got somebody else.

Edward and Alexander Van Halen need to realize that they are the Tommy and Jimmy Dorsey of today. The Van Halen's need to take charge of their band because it was their idea to have a band in the first place. They ought to stop letting these singers mouth off like they do. The name of the band is Van Halen not Van somebody else and trouble makers like David Roth and Frank Sinatra need to be reminded of that.
