Dear Biswick,
Finally, a question that clears the cobwebs from my brain and comes to
rest somewhere very close to my ailing heart. I come from a long line
of Juniors. Although, Sherman T. Biswick is my full and legally binding
name, many of my kin call me Junior as they did my father, my father's
father, and for no apparent reason our long since departed Blue Tick
coon dog, The Reverend. We called him The Reverend because that was his
name. However, there became much confusion with The Reverend Willard
Abdon whom I never called The Reverend. I called him Steve. At any
rate, The Reverend was a fine hunting dog. I paid $37 dollars for him
in 1968, which at the time was a considerable amount even for a dog.
Being a budding entrepreneur, I made the money back within a month with
all the coon hides I sold. Fess Parker was playing Daniel Boone on the
TV and coon skin caps were the fashion among the young people. Even I
was known to sport a fur hat. Now, Fess Parker. There was an actor.
No one in a western type comedy/drama could match his thespian skills.
Otherwise why would Walt Disney have chosen him over James Arness to
play the title role in the Davy Crockett movie series? I missed that
Fess Parker until I heard recently that he owned a winery out in
California. Though I'm not much of a wine drinker, I took the bus down
to the fancy wine store to see what it was all about. The fellow at the
check out line said he'd never heard of Fess Parker. So, I went home
disappointed.
Who is the person you most admire?
Although I'm not of the Italian disposition, my first thought was Dean
Martin. He could sing, act and liked a smart cocktail to boot. Although
I am sure he was quite unruly on occasion, he was just looking to have a
good time. I like to have fun, too though I seem to have less of it now
versus then. Don't get me wrong, I love the Bingo. It just seems that
the Jeopardy questions have been getting harder and the senior discount
doesn't buy as much as it used to.
What is your motto?
Dear Evelyn,
Sincerely,
Sherman T. Biswick
