Not the stuff you get from Satan's Minions with e-mail bulk lists. This is
stuff sent to you by supposed "friends" who think this crap is either funny or
urgent. They also think they're the first ones to come across it.
10) Virtual Snowball Fight - Ranked low b/c it's all text - still annoying and
useless, masquerading as hip spam
9) Bill Gates E-mail Program $1000 Test - This always surfaces about 2 to 3
months before a major MS release - It's Windows 98 time, and I got my first
one yesterday
8) Cop Gets Shot, Pass it On - Or The Feelgood E-Mail of the Year - I mean,
color me cynical if this really happened, but the comments that precede it
range from hysterical to just plain creepy
7) "This Is Not A Pyramid Scheme" Pyramid Scheme - I can't BELIEVE people still
fall for this....
6) What Kids Entering College This Year Don't Know (i.e. cold war, vinyl
records) - who cares - guess what? Thirty isn't old. Seventy, that's old.
5) Dying Kid Collecting Business Cards - Sad hoax - Easy to fall for
4) Singing Cartman - ENOUGH!
3) Virtual Greeting Cards - These are the stupidest things ever. And they
usually make noise and sit somewhere in the 1 to 2 MB range
2) Good Times! - See number 7
1) Dancing Baby - Can some 3D animation geek PLEASE make one where the baby
gets decapitated or something? Come on guys, if you can put Jennifer Aniston's
head on a naked body, you can surely accomplish this.
Web communities are the hottest topic out there, but what we at Smug want
to know is this: Are there any going that are based on a formal meritocracy
system? A lot of strong long lasting "community based" organizations - Boy
Scouts, the Freemasons, Leslie's dinner parties, etc. are based on clear
cut systems of advancement. Martial arts style, everyone completes and
reaches a specific skill set or task based agenda before advancing. Let us
know if you are aware of any such community, and we'll report the results,
if there's anything to report back here in Smug.
